Cleaning with a Shark

I am a sucker for TV infomercials. I’m enthralled by tomatoes that grow upside down, knives that cut through rusty nails and cupcakes the size of small third countries. However, the one product that I actively pursued owning after seeing it suck up a bowling ball on national TV was the Shark handheld vacuum. Yes, I am the proud owner of the Shark 15.6-Volt Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner with Motorized Brush. And yes, it actually works. Whereas I have yet to test its Twister Cyclonic technology on a bowling ball, the cleaner works well sucking up cereal and glitter spills. … Continue reading

Grill Cleaning Tips

My neighbor has decided to grill his turkey this Thanksgiving. What a bonus for his wife. She’ll have the freedom to cook as many side dishes as she pleases in their oven while Tom the Bird gets grilled outside. Apparently, there are legions of grill fanatics who don’t bother to pack away their cook tops when the temperatures drop. If you are one of these diehards, then it’s important to keep your grill as clean as possible. I’m not a huge fan of the fancy schmancy, as seen on TV grill cleaning tools, such as the Grill Daddy Cleaning Tool; … Continue reading

Top Ten Money Wasters

Today I was perusing my news alerts and came across a list of money wasters that CNN put out. I understand wasting money. I have children. There is so much waste going on in this house. It’s not intentional, but you can’t force small children to use and finish. Daily internet deals I subscribe to so many different social coupon sites. I’ve used it only once and my sister is really the one who bought the deal. We bought salon services for her next trip to Texas. Eating out I’ll concede that this is a big money bite. We don’t … Continue reading

A Clean Grill for Christmas

My best friend in Hawaii is cooking Christmas dinner for more than two-dozen guests. Fortunately, she’s getting help with the entrees from her husband who will be grilling a variety of different meats to feed the holiday crowd. However, since one grill is not enough to cook up all the menu items, she had to borrow another grill from her cousin. Unfortunately, that grill is caked with rust. After hearing about her pathetic tale I emailed her a list of solutions to her rust problems, including: Wire brush: A heavy-duty wire brush is the best tool to remove rust from … Continue reading

Home Sweet-Smelling Home

The interior of your home may look like it just got ripped to shreds by a tornado, but it doesn’t have to smell like the aftermath of Mother Nature’s fury. Right now, Pier 1 Imports is practically giving away the most beautiful potpourri sachets filled with incredible scents ranging from Citrus Cilantro (my personal favorite) and Crisp Bamboo (another fave) to Asian Spice and Pomegranate. I know because I was just there yesterday stocking up on stocking stuffers. One dollar per sachet. Score! While I’m not encouraging you to live like a sloth and mask the stench that may be … Continue reading

Free Credit Reports

I love the old commercials for freecreditreport.com. I love the “band” singing and I love the songs they sing. I don’t enjoy the new “band” or the new songs. Before I get into the point of the blog, I’ll let you in on a little tidbit. While the adorable Eric Violette fronts the band, he’s lip syncing to the lyrics, voice, and vision of adman Dave Mulhefeld. Mulhefeld is also responsible for cursing our televisions with the Geico gecko and cavemen. While the site is called freecreditreport.com the reports are not entirely free. There are two options available on the … Continue reading
