Battling Pet Hair

My cousin’s home has hardwood floors, but part of the sealer coat is uneven in an area near the front hall. The semi-sharp edge is where you can typically find a wad of dog hair just about every day. Once he finds the time to reapply sealer in the affected area, I’m sure the dog’s hair won’t get caught there, but until then guests are forced to walk around or (GASP!) on a furball as they make their way to the living room. Being the Dyson lover that I am, I recommended that my cousin purchase a Dyson Pet Vacuum … Continue reading

Affordable Ways to Combat the Winter Blues

So much for my New Year’s resolution. I’ve been consuming carbs at a frightening pace while battling severe allergies. Truthfully, I doubt the two are correlated.  Rather, I am blaming the wicked winter weather.   I’d bet a hundred bucks I wouldn’t be tempted to gorge on donuts, French toast and cinnamon buns if I were basking on a beach right now… in a bikini. Winter is brutal here in the Upper Midwest, which is why so many people suffer with seasonal doldrums.  The winter blues can strike family members of all ages, including children.  Consequently, it’s a good idea to … Continue reading

Seven Year Old Cancer Patient Meets Justin Bieber

Millie Flamm is seven years old. She had concert tickets to see Justin Bieber, but was too sick to attend and had to sell the tickets. To make it up to her, Justin Bieber came to visit her and her family in private before the concert. There certainly seem to be a lot of little girls who adore Justin Bieber! Millie Flamm is one of them. She is seven years old, and was going to attend his concert at the Energy Solutions Arena, in Utah. Unfortunately, her cancer relapsed two weeks before the concert, and she was too sick to … Continue reading

First Things First

Today I learned a very important lesson- the order in which you do chores is very important. For instance, never clean the house before you bathe the dog. I have a little shih tzu, she is just as cute as she can be but she is also a mess. Because she has hair instead of fur it grows, and grows and grows, requiring frequent trips to the groomers. I decided to help out my budget and groom the dog myself. I spent Sunday cleaning the house, I even swept out the garage, I was pretty proud of the way the … Continue reading

Teen With Cancer Gets Date With Taylor Swift

A teenager in New Jersey was concerned about not being able to find a prom date, due to the effects of his chemotherapy treatments. The creation of a Facebook page didn’t result in a prom date, but the teen did get a date with Taylor Swift. She wants him to be her date for the ACM Awards. Kevin McGuire is an eighteen year old high school student in New Jersey. He is battling leukemia. Kevin was first diagnosed with leukemia when he was thirteen years old, and in the seventh grade. This year, Kevin wanted to go to prom, but … Continue reading

My Best Advice: Choose Your Battles

If I were allowed to give one only bit of advice to parents who have young children or children on the verge of becoming teenagers, I would tell them this…choose your battles. There is honestly no better advice than this. When our children are younger, we tend to have two schools of thought when it comes to how the teen years will play out. Either we dread it and assume it will be nothing but trouble or we believe that we will never have trouble because we are going to be the kind of parents who lay down the law. … Continue reading
