Cleaning Grout

After cleaning my bathroom floor the other day, I noticed some discoloration in the grout between the tiles. It is much easier to clean the tiles but mildew and dirt can be a bit more stubborn when it comes to your grout. If you want to give it a real good cleaning, use a grout cleaning brush. These can be found at your local “Home Depot,” “Lowes” or other type of home improvement store. However if it isn’t too dirty, you may be able to get away with using a toothbrush (of course, it goes without saying that it shouldn’t … Continue reading

Cleaning the Dishwasher

I do a pretty good job keeping up with my schedule in which I deep clean the appliances in my kitchen. Most of us tend to think about the stove and refrigerator. Still not getting the picture? That’s probably because you assume since it is an appliance that cleans, it doesn’t require cleaning. Not true. You might compare it to your teeth. You can … Continue reading

Cleaning up at the Dollar Store

Keeping your house clean can get expensive. Every time I go to the grocery store I’m amazed at how expensive cleaners can be. Everything from window cleaner to laundry detergent just seems to keep getting more and more expensive. In this economy who can afford to spend money on something they are going to wash down the drain? I prefer to use natural things to clean my home. I don’t want all of those chemicals in the air and on the surfaces my family touches. However, not everyone is a fan of using vinegar and baking soda. Commercials have done … Continue reading

Kitchen Storage Cleaning Tips

Each and every time I place Tupperware or other plastic food storage containers in the dishwasher, I am met with disastrous results. Consequently, I have taken to hand washing all of my containers, even the higher quality ones that are made from hard plastic and resist stains. Now, I clean the containers with a mixture of water, vinegar, ammonia and baking soda. For containers with tough spaghetti sauce stains I … Continue reading

Spring Cleaning: Electronics

Some people believe it is a cardinal sin to clean CDs and DVDs with Windex. Meanwhile, others brag that they use the popular glass cleaner all the time to remove smudges and fingerprints from their favorite discs. So what gives? It is really safe to use commercial glass cleaners on delicate discs? According to experts, Windex is not the recommended cleaner of choice for discs, neither is hydrogen peroxide. Apparently, both products have abrasive qualities that can damage CDs and DVDs. The same is true for baking soda, metal cleaners and other all-purpose cleaners, such as Pledge Multi Surface Spray. … Continue reading
