Home School Blogger Spotlight: Giving Up on a Clean House

I must say that I love the title of this blog. The title, Giving up on a Clean House, is not a statement of the state of her home but a reflection of her state of mind. The mindset that says children and family are more important than dishes in the sick or the socks on the floor. Stacy keeps her head above the piles of laundry (not to say she has piles of laundry) by slowing down a keeping life simple. That simplicity is the focus of her blog which reflects family. She says “I have slowed down, committed … Continue reading

Nontraditional Easter Dishes

Traditionally, Easter is celebrated with ham or lamb and hot cross buns. Of course, these days, people tend to put their own spin on Easter buffets and now you can find everything from Chinese noodle dishes to Cuban pork on the holiday menu. My neighbor never prepares ham or lamb on Easter; rather the family sits down to a hearty beef stew after hunting for eggs. (She puts the stew on before the hunt, it cooks while they are hunting, and lunch is served shortly thereafter.) It helps that we live in the Upper Midwest where spring temps don’t usually … Continue reading

New Single Parents Blogger

Screaming kids, dishes piled high in the sink, past-due bills, and one person who is solely responsible for it all. Such is the life as a single parent, a life I am quite experienced with. My name is Jacky Gamble, and I am the newest blogger to the Single Parents blog. I first became a single parent at the age of 20, when my daughter was just 6 months old. Her father was not in the picture and failed to pay any child support. I was left to raise and support her on my own. When she was 6 years … Continue reading

These following recipes call for ingredients most people have … Continue reading

Thanksgiving Dishes That Please Preschoolers

The holiday meal. In our extended family, food items like brussel sprouts are a standby for the holidays, as is turnip and apple. We also serve salad, carrots with lots and lots of onions, wine…you get the picture. It’s not all that kid-friendly, except perhaps for the pumpkin pie. Especially not the sprouts – in fact, I find them somewhat unfriendly as well and tend to steer clear of the tiny cabbages. Shhh, don’t tell! While your preschooler may adore a dish of sprouts and vegetable dishes amply strewn with onions, mine does not. Extended families that have children present … Continue reading
