Fresh Air and Sunshine

I can’t seem to shake this cold. All the cleaning and disinfecting does not seem to be helping. Today I decided to let Mother Nature help get rid of the germs. It was sunny but still cold so I turned off the furnace, put on a coat and opened all the doors and windows. I left the house open for about ten minutes. Long enough to be able to feel the outside air moving around in the house and then I shut everything up. Already the house seems cleaner, fresher, like all the negative energy and germs have been blown … Continue reading

A Fresh Home Based Business Idea

I must admit, I have a very bad case of spring fever right now. It started a few weeks ago, and it is getting worse by the day. Even though it is still cold out, I have been outside for at least a little while each day and I have definitely noticed that it is getting dark just a little bit later. All of this wishful thinking about warmer weather made me think about gardening. If you enjoy gardening and you are thinking about starting a home-based business, perhaps you could grow and sell herbs. As an herb grower, you … Continue reading

Hot Days (and Hot Dogs) Ahead

The temperature yesterday was in the 70s in the Portland, Oregon area. By tomorrow, forecasts are calling for temperatures in the 90s! It looks to me like summer is coming… and coming fast. Dealing with the heat is somewhat easier for people than for pets. After all, we have thumbs for turning on the air conditioning… or the option of escaping to a cool, dark movie theater when the sun is too much. Some dogs do love the sun and heat, though. My brother’s American Staffordshire Terrier Lily Biscuits just loves sunshine. She’ll sprawl out on the warm concrete sidewalk … Continue reading

Fix Salt and Chlorine Damage

I love summer. I love sunshine, and I love swimming — ocean or pool, it doesn’t make a difference! But all that sunshine, salt, sand, and chlorine can be very damaging to your hair, skin, and nails. Always wear sunscreen! I can’t stress this one enough. Wearing sunscreen protects your skin from damage from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. That skin damage can develop into skin cancer over time — taking time to slather on sunscreen can help prevent skin cancer. Help heal your skin: If you have sensitive skin, try applying a thin coat of Vaseline before you go into … Continue reading

Home and Garden Tips that Work

I love handy tips, so I’ve got a few more to share. These work great: Fresher Fridge Did you try using rubberized shelf liner in your fridge? There are some other things you can do to keep your fridge organized and cleaner as well. Try adding a storage tray or shallow container to one shelf and using it as the space where you store leftovers. That way, they won’t get shoved to the back and end up turning into something scary. You’ll not only be more likely to remember to use stuff up, but you’ll also be able to pull … Continue reading

Spring Is In The Air, and so is a lot of other Junk!

It’s time to haul out the lawnmower, clippers and get dirt under our fingernails. So many pretty flowers are showing themselves, and everything is about to burst with bloom. There is a lot of work to be done, and the days are getting longer and longer just to remind us of the nearing summertime… Homeowners and renters (if they really appreciate their landlords) need to start thinking of all the maintenance and hazard issues for their home as well as their liability risks. If you still have your holiday lights hanging from the eve’s of your house, then you need … Continue reading

BBQs, Family and Friends

Last Saturday we had a wonderful experience. As I have mentioned in past blogs, my husband had an extended stay in the hospital, five-and-a-half weeks to be exact. So many friends and family were with us daily, supporting us, loving us and encouraging us through roughest of times. There were days when my husband’s life hung in the balance and I was unsure whether that night would be the last time I would see him. My faith is strong, my understanding of the Plan of Salvation is strong. But nevertheless, my heart quailed at the thought of continuing my mortal … Continue reading

Hello Hiking!

Today kicks off National Park Week; time to lace up those boots, head outside, and reintroduce yourself to fresh air and sunshine. Hiking is also a great way to work off some of those unwanted pounds you may have packed on during your winter hibernation. What’s more, you can do so without breaking the bank as National Park Week yields free admission to more than 100 parks which typically change a fee to get in. If you are looking for the perfect spot to get your springtime hike on, consider the following: The Appalachian Trail: Known as the granddaddy of … Continue reading

Spot Cleaning Tips

There are so many little things that can make your home feel dirty. No matter how clean it is if there are scuff marks on the linoleum and fingerprints on the door, the house feels dirty. Some of these things are easy to fix, a quick swipe with a wet cloth and the fingerprints are gone, and since it’s so quick, you can run around and grab all the doors. However, some things don’t go away so easily. Like scuff marks on the linoleum. If you have kids, you have scuff marks, sometimes you don’t even need the kids and … Continue reading

Taking Advantage of a Springlike Day

It has been unseasonably warm here lately. Today I think the high was 56, it’s February in Utah but please don’t tell old man winter, I’m ok with him skipping us this year. It was so warm today that I got a bit of a spring cleaning bug. Now I know this won’t last but I do want to enjoy it while I can. There are several things that I can do when the weather is nice that just makes my home seem that much cleaner. It is nice to have these little things done when it gets cold again, … Continue reading
