Parents Needed More Than Ever

I used to think the ideal years for being a stay-at-home mom was when the kids are very young, before they ventured off to school.  These are the years where so much forming and shaping of their lives takes place. Yet I have come to see another stage in life to be just as important.  It is during the teen years.  So often parents see this as their time…after all, teens are independent and don’t seem to need mom and dad as much as they used to. Whether the issue is staying home or just being available, too many parents … Continue reading

My Dog Is Ruining My Carpet

My little dog is having potty issues. She is basically driving me out of my mind. I’ve tried everything, I kennel her any time I’m not home and at night while I’m sleeping. Somehow she still finds time to pee on the floor. I’ve been spending a lot of time lately spot cleaning the carpet and steam cleaning it and I’m learning more and more. The most important thing is to try to clean up accidents as soon as they occur. This isn’t always possible but once the urine soaks through to the pad it’s really hard to get rid … Continue reading

More Toxins to Boot

If you are like me, sometimes you just take things for granted. I’ve been using air fresheners for years without ever really stopping to think about what chemicals – chemicals that may be harming my family – are in them. I mindlessly put on makeup without checking the label and have used non-stick cookware for years. But, as I get older, I get wiser and start looking more closely at things. I ditched the non-stick cookware and started reading labels more clearly. Here are some more household items with toxins that you may want to reconsider using: Things that are … Continue reading

Master Bedroom Renovation

It’s time for me to get working on the renovation of the master bedroom. My biggest problem is that I’m a flutterer. I flutter here and there, knock out a wall in this room, paint the ceiling in that room, rip out carpet in another room. There is no method to my madness, instead of having a plan, I do whatever moves me at that particular time. Which ultimately means, nothing gets finished. This renovation is going to be different. I am going to create a battle plan, and then I will break it down into steps and check those … Continue reading

Diagnosing Litter Box Problems

They don’t always use the box right… I’ve been noticing a disturbing pattern with the litter box lately. One of the cats, I’m not sure which, has taken to peeing on the edges of the inside of the box, splattering its sides. When I did my monthly cleaning of the area yesterday I noticed additional pee on the litter mat in between the two boxes. Unfortunately there are several reasons why either of my cats might be doing this. The first reason might be because one of them has a urinary tract infection. It’s more common for cats with UTI’s … Continue reading

Getting Called on the Carpet

Judge Judy has this saying that has always stuck with me. “How do you know when a teenager is lying?” The answer is…their lips are moving. In other words, you can’t count on anything being truthful when it comes to a teen. The first time I heard this, I had to laugh. While I don’t believe its true, I do understand where she is coming from. Trust is something we earn. I try to explain to my teens that it’s true in our house as well. When I know I can trust them, when they have earned my trust, I … Continue reading

Who’s Separated, Who’s Not?

Once again, it is time to throw the celebrity marriage dice and see who comes up with snake eyes. First up this week – a surprise split. After about a week’s worth of rumors, supermodel Heidi Klum and singer Seal have announced their separation. No mention of divorce yet, but can it really be far behind? No one knows, especially since Courtney Cox and David Arquette have been separated for well over a year now. But, this cannot be good for this super couple. Klum and Seal began dating in 2004 while Klum was pregnant with ex-boyfriend Flavio Briatore’s child … Continue reading

No More Carpet!

I may have mentioned this before, but I’ll say it again. I hate to vacuum. I don’t know why. It’s one of those jobs that I really don’t like, so I don’t do it as often as I should. The result is carpet that looks terrible and is worn before it’s time. It’s important to vacuum your carpet daily, this keeps the dirt from getting ground in and ruining the carpet. I know, I know, just run the vacuum and be done with it, but I just can’t make myself do it. I would rather clean every toilet in the … Continue reading

No More Little Girl

My 8th grade daughter has been working on transforming her room this past week. We let her pick out her own paint and come up with her own ideas. We are also letting her do the work. That is actually to our benefit (smile). However we told her that once she picks colors, it will stay that way until she moves out. So she had to be absolutely positive this was what she wanted. She picked out a very deep purple. It’s quite dark and a stark contrast from the first color of her room, pink. Her trim was always … Continue reading
