Organization Has Gotten Away From Me

Today as I was putting away some dishes I came across a decorating tip that I had used on Thanksgiving for filling deviled eggs. Without a second thought I tossed it into this little drawer that is on the side of my sink, a drawer I never think about because I never open. When I pulled that drawer open to toss that decorating tip in there I was in shock. I could not believe what lives in this drawer. I’m really good about keeping the drawers in the kitchen organized but somehow this one has been overlooked. Let me first … Continue reading

Spring Cleaning: Silver

Unless you use your fine silver on a daily basis, then you really don’t need to clean it more than twice a year. The goal in cleaning silver is to remove tarnish and return it to its original shine. Fortunately, there are a number of products on the market that make cleaning silver a fairly simple process. Personally, I love silver cleaning wipes. Oneida sells the wipes 10 in a box for about ten to 12 bucks. They are very easy to use; simply wet the silver item that needs polishing, and then rub it with the wipe. Once the … Continue reading

Spring Clean Your Scrapbook Space

Have you seen the viral video featuring the woman who lives in a 90-square-foot studio in Manhattan? Sure, it’s located across from Lincoln Center and a block from Central Park, but the place is smaller than most suburban bedroom closets. Lucky for her, she’s a professional organizer and her dad’s a bankruptcy attorney, so she knows how to make do with few things, and the items she does have are perfectly placed throughout the tiny apartment. Her story got me thinking about spring cleaning my scrapbook space. Sadly, my little scrapbooking nook is about the same size as the woman’s … Continue reading

Spring Clean Your Seats

I grew up in Hawaii where locals don triple socks and double pants when the mercury dips below 65 degrees. So, imagine my surprise when I moved to Wisconsin and found that people here sport shorts when temps rise into the 40s. Yesterday the shorts were out in full force, but white skin wasn’t the only thing shining in my neighborhood… so were the white plastic deck chairs. We have a few of these affordable chairs that we haul out every spring to add to our outdoor living space. However, right now they are far from shiny. Fortunately, there are … Continue reading

Spring Organization

Given how incredibly horrific the weather has been around here, there is no way I can possibly get my spring outdoor chores done right now. So much for cleaning gutters, sprucing up siding and picking up stray items from the yard; the 18 inches of snow that fell last week has put the kibosh on outdoor spring cleaning for at least another 10-14 days. In the meantime, I have been trying to deep clean the inside of my home, including reorganizing my craft space. I am not fortunate to have an entire room dedicated to crafting; rather, I have a … Continue reading

Spring Closet Cleaning

Where do I sign up for a HGTV cleaning pro to come to my house and revamp my closet? I need someone to help me deep-clean and organize my walk-in. Sabrina Soto… Vern Yip… Genevieve Gorder … PLEASE!! Actually, my closet is not dirty, but it could use some restructuring. I am blessed to have a fairly large closet, but I know I am not using the space as effectively as I could be. I’ve taken stabs at trying to organize my bedroom closet. Some have worked better than others. The winners are: Seasonal Rotation If space is exceptionally tight, … Continue reading
