Keeping Your Car Safe and Clean

I just bought a new car and I’m a little obsessed with how to keep it clean. When I got rid of my old car I found that I have a hoarding problem, as clean as I thought my car was, there was a lot of stuff in there. I’m working on making some organizers to corral all that stuff but I’ve also come up with some rules to help keep it clean. No eating allowed in the car. I know it’s convenient to grab something and eat it on the way, especially when you are running late. The problem … Continue reading

Is Your Car Really Clean?

I just bought a new car. My old car was seven years old and had 90,000 miles on it. It was slowly falling apart. I had hoped to keep it for ten years but that wasn’t to be. My car is usually clean, I don’t have trash in there so I think it’s clean. When I cleaned it out so I could trade it in I found out I’m a car hoarder. In my nice clean car I found: A dog leash A dog water bottle Doggie potty bags A bone A flashlight The owners manual An old cell phone … Continue reading

Keep That Car Shining

It’s time to clean my car again. I’m always amazed at how messy it gets, inside and out. I don’t really think about the cleanliness of my car, I just need it to get me from point A to point B, so by the time I get around to cleaning it, it’s usually pretty bad. I like going to the car wash. I will go through the drive through one in the winter but when the weather is nice I like to use the do it yourself ones. Before I take the car to the car wash I get rid … Continue reading

Keeping The Car Clean

If you were to look inside my car you would think that this past winter lasted about five years. It looks like it’s been that long since I cleaned it. It hasn’t really but everything is so dirty. It’s time to take it to the car wash and then detail the inside. I’m always amazed at how dirty the console gets. I think every drop of water or coffee that pops out of my drink rolls around in the dirt before landing the car, then it invites more dirt to come visit. Needless to say the console needs a good … Continue reading

That New Car Smell

It’s been so warm here lately and every day I see people at the car wash, I really should wash my car as well, maybe tomorrow. My car is a mess, I’m not very good about making sure it gets washed in the winter. Having a clean car is probably even more important in the winter, all the wet weather and road dirt gets on your windows and once the sun hits them you can’t see a thing. I took my car through the car wash, even though it’s been warm, it’s not warm enough to go to a self … Continue reading

Taking Care Of Camping Gear

I’m getting ready to go camping for the long weekend. That means dragging out all the camping gear I haven’t used in a few years. Everything is in good shape but it is all dusty and doesn’t smell very good! I got everything out, spread it all on the driveway to take stock. I have a dry pack that has all the cookware that is used just for camping, this was easy, hot soapy dishwater and it was ready to go. The cook stove was a little harder. I took it apart and used paper towels to get all the … Continue reading

Smelly Socks

Smelly Socks is one of Jessie’s current favorite books. She asks to read it often. Smelly Socks is written by Robert Munsch and illustrated by Michael Martchenko. The story is easy for the toddler to follow and the pictures are vibrant and pretty. Do you love your socks? Do you love your socks enough to never change them? Tina is so excited about her new socks that she cannot bear to take them off. I know some athletes that feel that way about their socks. Tina lives in a small town in Alaska. She wants new socks, but the sock … Continue reading

Discovering New Places: The Really Big Field Trip

This month, we went on a Really Big Field Trip to Costa Rica. It was wet, it was windy, it was…well, the weather was actually quite similar to our usual weather in the Pacific Northwest, except that it was a lot lighter and a fair bit warmer. Being in a new environment is another big part of going on a Really Big Field Trip. A lot of what I value about travel is the physical memory of being in a place. It’s not always about the culture. It’s also about the feeling of standing in a certain place and getting … Continue reading

Caring for Pets in Cold Weather

In June I posted about the dangers of heatstroke for animals. Now that we’ve entered the opposite extreme of seasonal weather, I’d like to take a look at ways to keep our pets safe when it’s cold outside. The ASPCA has a list of several things to remember when looking after pets in the winter. Just as leaving a dog in the car is dangerous in the heat the same is true in the cold. Especially when it isn’t sunny outside, cars trap the cold and can drop to dangerous freezing temperatures. If you must leave your pet in the … Continue reading
