National Trust Manual of Housekeeping

Ok, today while looking for a timely topic to write about I decided that I have no business writing a housekeeping blog because apparently, I’m a slacker. I like a clean house as much as the next girl, nothing is as wonderful as waking up to a clean house every day and having that same house organized so that most of the cleaning seems to do itself. But today I found a book that makes me feel like I could possibly be living in a shack with a dirt floor when it comes to cleanliness and organization. This book is … Continue reading

The Dirtiest Job in the House

You can learn a lot by watching TV. Just the other day I discovered that you come into contact with more bacteria while cleaning out a fish bowl than disinfecting a dirty toilet. In addition, according to the PBS kids’ show my daughter had on while I was making breakfast, the average refrigerator door handle harbors more germs than the bathroom floor. Thanks, Fetch! Kids’ show science facts aside, in my opinion, cleaning toilets is the dirtiest job in the house. I can’t stand dealing with rings above the water line. The unsightly rings around the toilet are typically caused … Continue reading

Cleaning Hard Water Stains

I’m always amazed that no matter how much I clean my house, there is always something to be done. It seems like every day I’m picking up, dusting and vacuuming. Sometimes I forget the other things, you know, those things that have to be done once in a while. It seems like today was that once in a while. I woke up in a cleaning mood, when that happens I know I’m going to be doing things I don’t usually do. This was not to be a normal cleaning day. I live in Utah and we have extremely hard water. … Continue reading

Are You Avoiding Germs?

It’s that time of the year when many people are sniffling and sneezing. That makes others worry about one thing – avoiding germs. You may wash your hands a lot and try to avoid those that are sick, but there still may be ways you are coming in contact with germs and you don’t even know it. One thing a lot of people are careful to do is to wash their fruit. And that is a great idea, but what about fruit such as bananas or oranges? You may not think to wash the skin of a fruit you don’t … Continue reading

Cleaning Money

My dad cleans his money. Seriously. Not all of it, just the coins he finds in puddles and near car tires… and on the floor of the men’s room. He mainly reaches down for heads-up pennies. He thinks they’re good luck. I used to follow his lead until the day I picked up a heads-up penny on the way to my car only to find a parking ticket pasted to the windshield. I haven’t picked up a stray penny from the ground since. Still, my dad is a coin cleaner. I should be so lucky to have spare money around … Continue reading
