The Joy of Redoing a Room

There is one room in this house I haven’t been able to get my hands on for a few years now. It is my daughter’s bedroom. But a couple of weeks ago she went away for camp and decided she was ready to get rid of her dark purple walls, black trim and black bed. I cannot tell you how excited I was to hear this…especially when she picked out very light purple and blue paints. We hadn’t seen her floor in months…I’m not kidding. Now you have to understand, I used to be the type of person who practically … Continue reading

Inviting, Pleasing to the Eye and Comfortable

What emotions do you experience when you enter your bedroom? Does it feel like a sanctuary, a place where you can truly unwind after a long and difficult day? Or does it feel more like the rest of your life…cluttered and chaotic? We may not give much thought to the feelings that rooms in our home can stir, but they can make a significant difference. Cords: we all have them in abundance, usually in a tangled mess behind our appliances. Line the rolls with … Continue reading

Turning a Small Kitchen into an Eat-in Kitchen

Just last week I visited a home that had the most amazing Tuscan-inspired kitchen, complete with the designer tile. The thing that struck me most, after I stopped drooling over the above tile, the dark hardwood floors and the smooth black granite countertops, was the way that the kitchen was more of an entertaining kitchen. Our own kitchen in comparison, while larger than what we had before, is still more of a place to prepare food, rather than to hang out. These days, large entertaining kitchens sell houses, not to mention the fact that they are fun and welcoming to … Continue reading
