Cleaning Grout

After cleaning my bathroom floor the other day, I noticed some discoloration in the grout between the tiles. It is much easier to clean the tiles but mildew and dirt can be a bit more stubborn when it comes to your grout. If you want to give it a real good cleaning, use a grout cleaning brush. These can be found at your local “Home Depot,” “Lowes” or other type of home improvement store. However if it isn’t too dirty, you may be able to get away with using a toothbrush (of course, it goes without saying that it shouldn’t … Continue reading

Cleaning Your Microwave

I don’t like cleaning my stove or refrigerator. But there is another appliance in my home that I dislike cleaning even more…the microwave. I guess that’s because I don’t have to clean the stove or fridge on a regular basis. However, the microwave gets a lot of use out of it so cleaning is much more frequent. What I especially don’t like is the awful smell of popcorn inside (even though I love popcorn). But what’s worse is when my children have warmed up cans of Spaghetti O’s. Not only do I want to gag at the smell but the … Continue reading

Getting Ready for Fall Cleaning

Although the fall season isn’t quite here, it is definitely on the horizon. Here in my neck of the woods the temps are supposed to start dropping this weekend, a sure sign of what is to come. One of the things I do in the fall is what I call “fall cleaning.” It is similar to “spring cleaning,” but with a little bit of a different emphasis. You see, I’m getting the house ready for the colder months in which the windows will be shut and we will be spending more time indoors. What I do during fall cleaning is … Continue reading

Keeping Your Car Safe and Clean

I just bought a new car and I’m a little obsessed with how to keep it clean. When I got rid of my old car I found that I have a hoarding problem, as clean as I thought my car was, there was a lot of stuff in there. I’m working on making some organizers to corral all that stuff but I’ve also come up with some rules to help keep it clean. No eating allowed in the car. I know it’s convenient to grab something and eat it on the way, especially when you are running late. The problem … Continue reading

Is Your Car Really Clean?

I just bought a new car. My old car was seven years old and had 90,000 miles on it. It was slowly falling apart. I had hoped to keep it for ten years but that wasn’t to be. My car is usually clean, I don’t have trash in there so I think it’s clean. When I cleaned it out so I could trade it in I found out I’m a car hoarder. In my nice clean car I found: A dog leash A dog water bottle Doggie potty bags A bone A flashlight The owners manual An old cell phone … Continue reading

How to Keep the House Clean in the Summer

With a flurry of kids coming in and out of the house all summer long, how do you keep the dirt, the mud, the sand, and yes, even the water out of your home? Sometimes I will settle for just getting the dirt cleaned up enough that it doesn’t permanently damage the carpets or flooring. Beside the damage from spills, carpets can become matted and hard floors can become scratched by dirt and grit. There has to be a balance between having a relaxed summer home and spending all of your time cleaning up. We want to reduce the clean … Continue reading

Do Natural Cleaners Really Work?

I talk a lot about using natural cleaners. I really don’t like putting all those chemicals into the air and water. At times I wonder if vinegar, baking soda and the like really clean as well as the chemical concoctions. After all, perception is reality and when I smell those cleaners I perceive that things are cleaner. When I use and baking soda there is no telltale cleaner smell, so is it really doing the job? Well, today I found out that vinegar really does clean. And it cleans those hard to clean things that are an embarrassment. I’m so … Continue reading

Keeping The Car Clean

If you were to look inside my car you would think that this past winter lasted about five years. It looks like it’s been that long since I cleaned it. It hasn’t really but everything is so dirty. It’s time to take it to the car wash and then detail the inside. I’m always amazed at how dirty the console gets. I think every drop of water or coffee that pops out of my drink rolls around in the dirt before landing the car, then it invites more dirt to come visit. Needless to say the console needs a good … Continue reading

How Clean is Your Kitchen?

We all worry when we go out to eat, is the kitchen clean? Do the employees follow good hygiene and cleanliness standards? Everyone worries about those things but restaurant kitchens are held to a much stricter standard than your average kitchen. Your biggest food concern may be right at home. Most of us know how to handle raw meat or to wash food before preparing, it’s the little things that cause the most problems. For instance, is your pet allowed in the kitchen while food is being prepared? Just quickly touching the dog, either a pat on the head or … Continue reading

Cleaning Up After a Sick Child

It was a lovely Saturday, or it would have been if I hadn’t woken up to a three year old throwing up on me. Poor little thing. Ivy spend the night last night and got sick in both of our beds. I don’t think my washer has run this much in one day since Hailey was little. Cleaning up vomit is never fun but if you don’t get to it immediately it will stain. So if you have a sick kid, as soon as you get them cleaned up throw the bedding in the tub, especially if it’s the middle … Continue reading
