We Never Make Our Beds

After reading fellow blogger Carol Paxman’s “Make It Easier and It Will Get Done,” I couldn’t help but chuckle. She shared that she wanted to work on a habit, making her bed. I don’t know if this will shock her and others but no one in my house has ever made their bed…I’m not kidding. I hadn’t thought about it much until I read her blog. I had to ask myself, where did that bad habit of not making my bed come from? I realized it began when my husband and I were first married. He oftentimes worked second shift, … Continue reading

What Are You Sharing Your Bed With?

Sometimes when I’m searching the internet for ideas I come across something that makes my skin itch. This is one of those posts. Dust mites, now that I know about them I may never get a good nights sleep! Dust mites cannot be seen with the naked eye but they can still cause serious health problems such as allergies, asthma, nasal polyps and eczema. Believe it or not, they are one of the most common causes of allergies and asthma. Dust mites need moisture and they feed on dead skin cells, ewwwww! They love to hid in our beds, making … Continue reading

The Never Ending List

I’m a list maker. I make lists of everything, sometimes when I’m going especially crazy, I make lists of my lists. I know how crazy that sounds but if I write something on a list I can keep it from taking up space in my head because I know the list is keeping track of it for me. The feeling of accomplishment I get when I get to cross things off my list, well, it makes me feel like a I have a little bit of control over my sometimes chaotic life. Maybe that’s why I dislike housework. Sure there … Continue reading

Make Your Bed

Do you make your bed every day? When I was little my mom taught me to make my bed every day. Mom told stressed upon me how made beds are much nicer to get into at night. She was right there. Mom told me that your room could be a little bit messy and still look nice and put together if your bed was made. The funny thing about that was that Mom’s room was never messy. The house was never messy either. You could be sick in bed and Mom would make the bed around you. I am horrible … Continue reading

Simple Ways to Say “Thanks” With Your Preschooler This Thanksgiving

I work with small children. One of the few ideals that I brought into my life as a parent was that I wanted to have a child who would be polite. Of course, like all of my parenting ideals, that one is regularly crushed when my child loudly announces at the playground, “I want that swing! I don’t want you to be on that swing! Get off the swing!” Ah, four-year-olds. However, through interminable repetition, I do seem to have a child who says please and thank you. Please and thank you are very important in our house. So when … Continue reading

Do Your Teens Fake Bake?

Growing up in Hawaii there was never a need for me to visit a tanning salon. However, upon moving to Wisconsin I found that fake baking is a popular pastime that is often shared between mothers and daughters. Who knew that mother-daughter bonding could be so dangerous? Sorry simulated sun worshippers, I have some very bad news for you: International cancer experts have moved tanning beds and other sources of ultraviolet radiation into the top cancer risk category, deeming them as deadly as arsenic and mustard gas. There’s nothing quite like allowing your kids to be exposed to substances akin … Continue reading

Do Your Pets Help With Chores?

Murphy, Mr. Meow, and Tabby do. Or at least they like to think they do. Mostly they just keep me company, but to a great extent that helps. It makes my chores go faster! Wayne’s always been amazed how consistent they are with helping me. Each of them picked the tasks they like helping me with best and every time I do them there they are, my little helpers. Murphy Helps With… Almost everything. He helps me: 1) bring in the mail 2) mail stuff out 3) bring in groceries 4) load up recyclables for dropping off (Which sometimes he … Continue reading

Reusing What You Have – Dresser Drawers

My friends and family always laugh when they see the strange uses I come up with for my many different odds and ends pieces of furniture. I have been reusing furniture in new and innovative ways since I first moved out of my mother’s house at eighteen. So what could I possibly find to do with a dresser drawer? Oh, you just wait and see! First, it seems as if everyone has an old dresser sitting in storage or in the basement collecting dust. And I intend to give you some great ideas to reuse your dresser for many different … Continue reading

Co-Sleeping Babies Never Leave Their Parents!

I hear this often as one of the primary reasons against co-sleeping. Some people feel that it interferes with intimacy between a husband and wife. Others tried co-sleeping for a short period and found it very difficult to get their child out of the bedroom. Many of you who regularly read my blog, probably already know that we are a co-sleeping family. Simply put, I would not have maintained an ounce of sanity had we not co-slept with the twins. However, I have also stated that whatever gets mom and baby the most sleep is the perfect arrangement for you. … Continue reading

When Towels Take Over

I figured something out today. I have too many towels. Yes, that’s right. For every load of laundry I do, there are four or five towels which must be added in. (And I do a whole lot of laundry. You have no idea.) Then, about double that amount comes out of the dryer, half of which end up on the floors of bathrooms, at the bottom of laundry hampers, stuffed under beds, and wadded behind toilets. The person who did this is called “Not Me.” “Not Me” is quite the culprit in my house. This character spills random liquids in … Continue reading
