Mapping Your Bedroom with Feng Shui

In my last blog, I introduced you to the ancient Chinese method of Feng Shui. I explained that it is supposed to help bring good health and balance to your life. The bedroom is the place where Feng Shui is mostly used. Of course, you can do this with any room. But as an example, we are going to be looking at how you map your bedroom with Feng Shui. One of the reasons why the bedroom is a popular room for this principle is because it helps to create that sanctuary we need. It is where we rest, sleep … Continue reading

What Is Feng Shui?

I was recently watching a local talk show (similar to the “The View” but hosted by newscasters) and one of them was talking about something called Feng Shui. It is an ancient Chinese means of balancing the energies in a room in order to give those who live in it good health and fortune. Since it follows the Taoist vision, I personally don’t believe in the balancing of “energy.” My belief system is a little different but I still thought it had some interesting concepts, especially when it comes to mapping out a room with this. In my next blog … Continue reading

Money and Feng Shui

My husband and I became curious about Feng Shui recently. The custom and culture surrounding this ancient wisdom is fascinating. What I like most about Feng Shui is its focus on balance. The key to a satisfying life is to create balance in your life and environment. I believe this practice is important whether you are balancing colors in a room or balancing your budget. No one can ever be happy on a budget diet for too long, nor will their life work if they always spend to excess. Your financial life needs to have good Feng Shui or easily … Continue reading

Do Teens’ Messes Ruin a Home’s Feng Shui?

A few years ago, I bought a book about how to “Feng Shui” your living space. Since then, I’ve picked up a few more books and articles about energy, chi, and the art of arranging one’s environment for optimal health and happiness. I have to admit, however, that with a houseful of teenagers, there is only so much work and control I can exert over my environment. What I’m wondering—is does the teenagers’ messy rooms and constant clutter ruin my home’s Feng Shui? I have read quite about how important it is to have movement in my wealth area, and … Continue reading

Home Office Feng Shui – For Families

Have you heard the term “Feng Shui before? If you haven’t, here’s a quick definition taken from Wikipedia; “Feng Shui – (pronounced “fung shway”) is the ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space to achieve harmony with the environment”. I discovered the art of family-office Feng Shui a few weeks ago by accident. During one of my busier seasons, I spent more time than normal sitting at my desk while my kids watched Saturday morning cartoons. As I frantically tried to cram in a weeks’ worth of work into four hours, I noticed that my kids were extremely … Continue reading

Exploring the International Disney Parks

Disney World and Disneyland aren’t exactly the same, so why should the other Disney parks abroad be similar?  If you ever get the chance to travel to an international Disney park, perhaps to Tokyo Disneyland for the new D23 convention this fall, you might notice a few differences from the domestic ones.  BBC Travel did a report on some of the unique things that set the international parks apart. One of the most obvious differences is the food.  While you can get some international food at Disney Parks, especially at Epcot at Disney World, it’s still not standard.  Obviously, that’s … Continue reading

Inviting, Pleasing to the Eye and Comfortable

What emotions do you experience when you enter your bedroom? Does it feel like a sanctuary, a place where you can truly unwind after a long and difficult day? Or does it feel more like the rest of your life…cluttered and chaotic? We may not give much thought to the feelings that rooms in our home can stir, but they can make a significant difference. This is true for the start of your day and the end of it. I don’t like waking up to dirty dishes and dust bunnies. I try to manage my home enough that the start … Continue reading

The Joy of Redoing a Room

There is one room in this house I haven’t been able to get my hands on for a few years now. It is my daughter’s bedroom. But a couple of weeks ago she went away for camp and decided she was ready to get rid of her dark purple walls, black trim and black bed. I cannot tell you how excited I was to hear this…especially when she picked out very light purple and blue paints. We hadn’t seen her floor in months…I’m not kidding. Now you have to understand, I used to be the type of person who practically … Continue reading

We Never Make Our Beds

After reading fellow blogger Carol Paxman’s “Make It Easier and It Will Get Done,” I couldn’t help but chuckle. She shared that she wanted to work on a habit, making her bed. I don’t know if this will shock her and others but no one in my house has ever made their bed…I’m not kidding. I hadn’t thought about it much until I read her blog. I had to ask myself, where did that bad habit of not making my bed come from? I realized it began when my husband and I were first married. He oftentimes worked second shift, … Continue reading
